Chapel St Patio Renovation….
Chapel St Patio Renovation
Hello, I just wanted to share with you a project that I’ve been working on. It’s an update of the front entrance or patio of this mid century home.
‘As they say first impressions count.’
Making the front door and entrance to your home no matter how small a change, can make a huge difference to the visual appeal of a home and also make it more welcoming. And give it great street appeal so if you were selling your home these small upgrades can mean the difference between selling or not.
So the update happening on this 1968 brick home firstly is painting the brick walls around the small vestibule…. Gasp I know I’m painting the bricks yikes!!! But you’ll see from the photo’s how amazing it’s looking.
The paint used for the bricks is a Dulux Weathershield Low Sheen paint in the colour Sailing Safari. I’ve also a used a paint roller appropriate for using on very textured bricks. I also have a paint brush for cutting in and to do in between the bricks.
My choice in colour comes from researching and my love of Mid Century Style. I’ve spent a lot of time choosing bold colours typical of this era with a modern touch.
I have also painted the old dated and tired looking tiles under foot. These were so ugly and not cool anymore. So I chose Dulux Monument for the floor. The timber trim around the home is also Monument grey so this ties in with it and is also in the same tone as the Sailing Safari on the bricks so it matches perfectly.
I had to prime the tiles first with a Dulux 3in1 Primer and followed with the Monument using White Knight Accent Heavy Duty Ultra Pave Concrete And Paving Paint. This was recommended to me by the staff at Bunnings so will keep you posted on how it holds up.
I’ve also painted a timber shoe bench in the same blue as the bricks, this will be part of the décor added later on.
There is also a small outdoor table which I have resprayed in a semi gloss black spray paint , White Knight 310g Black Satin Squirts Spray Paint also from Bunnings. This will also be used to spray the security door down the track.
The front door will be re painted in Dulux Black Caviar which is an almost black.
So far in this little reno journey I’ve discovered that it sucks to paint bricks especially really textured ones that have a huge gap between them . I think when I approach the rest of the façade of the home I’d use a spray gun which I’ve never used before but I’m sure I’d get the hang of it. I find these sort’s of things cathartic and I just take my time and plod away at each step of the process. I do however love watching the transformation and seeing my vision come to life.
That’s what designing is all about for me the transformation and seeing something come to life. Whether it’s a transformation or watching something being created from scratch that gets my creative juices flowing and gives me a real kick.
Will keep you updated on the progress.
Till next time.
Cheers
