A guide to Room by Room must haves……

I’ve put together a simple room by room guide for some of those essential things you might forget when designing your home. Decorating or doing a renovation of any kind needs careful thought for so many things to make your spaces versatile and functional and perfect for all your family’s needs.

Bathroom Must haves

Creating an ideal bathroom involves thoughtful planning and an eye for detail. Key must-haves include:

  • Double towel rails x 2. One for the towels, one for the bathmat.

  • Hidden power points for charging shavers, electric toothbrushes, etc.

  • Niche or shelf for storing shampoo, conditioner, shower gel.

  • Underfloor heating for those in a cold climate. This must be considered at the planning stage of the bathroom.

  • Hand towel rail, hooks for face washers, or to hang clothing on.

  • A hidden bin inside your vanity for easy access and a neat look.

Mud Room Must haves

The mudroom is the first space you step into when you come home, and it needs to be comfortable and functional. Here's what you need:

  • Plenty of hooks for coats and bags.

  • Vented shoe storage for those smelly shoes.

  • A cupboard to hide stuff and keep the room neat.

  • Baskets for storing small items.

  • A pull-out hamper for dirty laundry if your mudroom is near your laundry area.

  • A bench to sit on while taking off your shoes.

  • An umbrella bucket with umbrellas for sudden showers.

Laundry Must haves

Make laundry less of a chore with these essentials:

  • Ample bench space for sorting and folding clothes.

  • Pull-out laundry hampers for lights and darks.

  • Hidden power points in laundry cupboard to charge cordless vacuum cleaners etc.

  • Space to dry clothing, a pull-out or pull-down clothes horse, or hanging space for delicates.

  • Plenty of storage for cleaning related items like buckets, vacuum cleaner, dust buster, mops, brooms.

  • A hidden ironing board for easy access and space efficiency.

Kitchen Must haves

The heart of every home, your kitchen needs these essentials:

  • Double or Triple pull-out bins for waste, green waste, and recycling. Also, a hidden drawer for garbage/green waste bags.

  • A tech drawer to charge all your devices like phones and iPads in a hidden area.

  • Plenty of power points, even pop-up ones or under the island bench for versatility.

  • Sensor light in the pantry for convenience.

  • Perhaps even under your bench have a space without your kickboard to have a robo vac docking out of site.

Bedroom Must haves

Your personal sanctuary, the bedroom, needs these features for maximum comfort:

  • A tech station or USB outlets for charging on your bedside table.

  • Storage options like tall hanging space, short hanging space, and folding storage.

  • Specific storage for shoes, belts, jewelry, handbags and hats.

  • Charging stations or USB outlets in your wardrobe or walk-in robe.

  • Sensor light in the walk-in robe for convenience.

Must haves for your pet

To make your furry friends feel at home, consider these additions:

  • A built-in food and water station for easy access.

  • A hidden dog or cat bed, possibly located in your laundry or mud room.

  • Hidden storage for dog leads, food, treats, dog coats, brushes, and grooming equipment.

  • An outlet for a heated bed if your pet is old.

  • An appropriate tub with a pull-out shower faucet if you wash your pet at home.
